Atletico Madrid footballer Rodrigo De Paul has reached a transfer agreement with Inter Miami.
The 31-year-old Argentine footballer has agreed personal terms on a short-term contract and will soon join close friend Lionel Messi at the Miami club.
It is a short-term deal that could become a multi-year deal. He could be in the squad in time for the start of the League Cup later this month, but the exact date of his arrival is uncertain, the source told the Associated Press.
De Paul has one more year left on his contract with the Madrid club, which he joined from Udinese in 2021. He also played for Argentinean clubs Racing and Valencia.
He played 78 games for the Argentine national team, scored two goals and won the World Cup and two Copa America trophies.
Inter Miami management has been negotiating with Messi for several weeks about continuing their cooperation.
The contract of one of the best footballers of all time expires in December and he is expected to return to the American club for at least one more season.
Messi's former Barcelona teammates, 37-year-old Sergio Busquets, 38-year-old Luis Suarez and 36-year-old Jordi Alba, already play for Inter.
Inter had their most successful season last year as they had the best winning percentage in MLS history, but were quickly eliminated from the playoffs.
