The State Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into potentially suspicious payments made by Kylian Mbappe to five police officers responsible for the security of the French national team.
The investigation was launched after a tip-off from the Anti-Money Laundering Unit, who reported unusual financial transactions in favor of five police officers.
"The investigation is ongoing. Due to the complex nature of the financial transactions, it is necessary to further determine whether any criminal offenses have been committed," the prosecutor's office said.
Mbappe allegedly paid a little over 180 euros "on the black" for private services. A statement from his team soon followed, stating that everything was done in accordance with the rules.
They add that Mbappe has always donated his bonuses he received for participating in the French jersey, and he did so after the 2022 World Cup, when the money went to humanitarian organizations and security personnel accompanying the national team.
