Ten years in the white jersey, the status of captain and club legend - Son Heung-Min is Tottenham's man, but the time has come to say goodbye.
Tomorrow's day in Seoul will be full of emotions for Spurs fans, as it will be the Korean's last as a member of the north London club - this was confirmed at a press conference the day before the duel with Newcastle.
"I have made a decision, probably the most difficult of my career - it is time for the next challenge," Son said as he sat in front of reporters in the company of Tottenham manager Thomas Frank.
Sonu's contract with the English club expires next summer, but the two parties have already agreed to part ways, so it is expected that the experienced winger (he turned 33 at the beginning of July) will continue his career in the American MLS league and sign for Los Angeles.
"I came to north London very young, I was almost a boy, I didn't even know how to speak English. I'm leaving as a man and I'm very proud of everything I've been through," Son pointed out.
He arrived in 2015 from Bayern and quickly became a favorite of Spurs fans.
He impressed for a long time in tandem with Harry Kane, but trophies were lacking - the 2019 Champions League final and the 2021 English League Cup are remembered before Tottenham reached the Europa League trophy two months ago.
Son lifted the trophy after the final victory over Manchester United.
It was Tottenham's first title in 17 years and earned them a place in the Champions League, despite a dismal Premier League season that cost manager Ainge Postecoglou his job.
"If this is indeed Son's last match in a Tottenham shirt - there is no doubt that the end is wonderful, at his home stadium and in front of his fans. We all know what Son has done for this club," said Frank, the former manager of Brentford.
Son has played 2015 games for Tottenham since 454, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists.
"I can say I'm a Tottenham legend, why not? I'm the captain of the team that brought the club its first trophy in 17 years - that has to go down in history," Son said after the victory over United in the Europa League final.
