The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has today rejected Crystal Palace's appeal against the decision of the European Football Association (UEFA) to transfer them from the Europa League to the Conference League for violating ownership rules.
This CAS decision confirmed the places of Nottingham Forest and Olympique Lyonnais in the group stage of this season's Europa League.
Crystal Palace qualified directly for the group stage of the Europa League by winning the FA Cup, but UEFA subsequently decided to move the London club to the Conference League and place Nottingham Forest in its place in the Europa League.
The decision was made because the previous owner of 43 percent of Crystal Palace's shares, John Textor, is also the majority owner of Olympique Lyonnais, which also qualified for the Europa League.
Crystal Palace missed a March deadline set by Uefa to resolve the issue, and CAS said its judges had ruled that Tekstor "was a board member with decisive influence over both clubs at the time of Uefa's assessment".
Crystal Palace started the 2025/26 season by winning the Community Shield title, after defeating Liverpool after a better penalty shootout.
