Crystal Palace Football Club chairman Steve Parish has said that the club is considering selling its captain Mark Gaye this summer, in order to avoid the possibility of the English defender leaving the club for free at the end of this season, when his contract expires.
"We will have to consider offers for him. For players of that calibre to leave for no fee, that is a problem. There is no doubt about that, unfortunately," said Parish, as reported by Sky Sports.
Periš added that two offers for Gei were received in the last year, but that the club rejected both due to the situation they were in at the time.
"We had one offer last summer but Joakim (Andersen) went to Fulham and we couldn't afford to lose both players. Then we had another offer in January but that was a difficult situation and the player had his own opinion on it. So we just have to see what happens but a new contract or some kind of conclusion is needed," said Parish.
Gea (25) joined Crystal Palace in July 2021 from Chelsea in a transfer worth £18 million.
The English defender has since played a total of 156 games for Crystal Palace, with whom he won the FA Cup and Community Shield titles this year.
With the England national team, he won silver at the European Championship in Germany, where he played every match for his team except the quarter-final, which he missed due to suspension.
Liverpool emerged as the most serious team that wanted him this summer.
