Igor Nikić in Mirandes: A huge step, working at a club like this will make me an even better goalkeeper

International transfer of Montenegrin national team goalkeeper Igor Nikić.

Former goalkeeper Dečić signed a two-year contract today with Spanish La Liga 2 team Mirandes.

After excellent performances for Dečić and the national team, for which he has already made six appearances (remember his great debut away against Turkey last year), the 24-year-old goalkeeper has attracted the attention of many European clubs from the strongest leagues.

Epilogue - a transfer to Spain, to a team that almost finished in La Liga 1, and has elite ambitions again in the upcoming season.

"This represents a big step forward for him and for Montenegrin football in general, especially considering that he is the goalkeeper of the national team and that playing in such a high-quality league will greatly help his further progress," said Nikić's agent, Igor Gluščević.

Before Decic, Nikic played for Podgorica, Mladost DG and Arsenal.

After his first international signing, he can't hide his excitement:

"After all the hard years of work and dedication, the satisfaction of having the chance to try my hand at a Spanish club has arrived. I believe that this is a huge step towards the further development of my career and that playing in such competition will certainly bring a lot of new experience, but I am also convinced that working at this level will greatly develop me into a better and more prepared goalkeeper. I owe a great deal of gratitude to the management, former teammates and all employees of FK Dečić for the two wonderful years spent at the club, as well as to my manager Igor Gluščević, who did everything for me to be part of this great team today. I also thank the Mirandes management for recognizing my values and believing that I can make a great contribution to the team in the fight against famous Spanish clubs. It is up to me to fulfill all these expectations," Nikić points out.

Igor Gluščević adds:

"Perhaps an abstract step for laymen, but suffice it to say that last season Mirandes was eliminated by Oviedo in the last minute in a two-legged tie that decided their place in the Primera, and that players who were standard last season made major transfers. Panicelli went to Strasbourg for 16 million euros, while Gorocategui returned to Athletic Bilbao as a replacement for Zubimendi, who moved to Arsenal for 60 million," the famous affent pointed out.

Mirandes is a club from Miranda de Ebro, in the province of Burgos in the very northeast of Spain.

The club, founded in 1927, has never played in La Liga in its history, and last year was the closest it came to doing so - which means it is experiencing its most glorious days. With Nikić, they will try to finally take a big step.
