French international Adrien Rabiot has been placed on the transfer list of Olympique de Marseille for misconduct following Friday's 0-1 defeat to Rennes, the club announced today.
Rabiot and young English striker Jonathan Rowe were the main protagonists of the post-match dressing room altercation, which led the club to make the decision to place both players on the transfer list, stating in a statement that it was "unacceptable behavior."
"The decision was made in consultation with the coaching staff and in accordance with the internal code of conduct," the club stated.
Rabiot's mother and agent, Véronique Rabiot, previously told RTL that the decision was initiated by coach Roberto De Zerbi due to "lack of commitment".
Rabiot, 30, arrived at Marseille last summer and had a great season, contributing to their Champions League qualification with ten goals and five assists. Less than ten days ago, he said that "the best thing would be to stay at Marseille", so the news of his departure comes as a big surprise.
He played 53 matches for the French national team.
Rowe, who did not have significant playing time last season, was previously announced as a player who could leave the club.
