Sports legends, the most famous football analysts and renowned TV presenters gathered in Zadar this summer for the first "Sofascore Player of the Season Award Show", filmed during the Sunset Sports Festival.
The event recently premiered on American television CBS, reaching an audience of millions worldwide.
The ceremony was dedicated to the best players from the biggest European leagues, and the winners were chosen solely on the basis of Sofascore ratings - no fan votes and no popular polls. According to the statistics, Mohamed Salah was the best in the Premier League with an average rating of 7,78, Rafinha led LaLiga with 7,80, while in Serie A the first place went to Matia Zakanji (7,34). The best in the Bundesliga was Joshua Kimich (7,91), and in League 1 Ashraf Hakimi (7,76).
In addition to the league awards, the most successful players in the Champions League and women's football were also awarded. The Founders' Legend Award, which was received for the first time in history by Luka Modrić, attracted special attention.
The evening was hosted by journalist Kate Scott and football legend Peter Schmeichel, directed by multiple Emmy Award winner Pete Radovic. They were joined on stage by Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Alessandro Del Piero, with Dimitar Berbatov, Stipe Miočić and Šime Vrsaljko also in the audience.
Sofascore further marked the event with massive billboards across Europe - from Barcelona, London and Liverpool, to Munich, Rome and Lyon, celebrating the winners who marked the season.
The organizers emphasize that this is the only award in football that is based entirely on objective data:
“Every goal, every pass, every duel and miss counts towards the final score. That’s why the Sofascore Trophy is the only award that truly reflects what happens on the pitch.”
