It was an almost perfect summer for Liverpool fans, who welcomed Alexander Isak and Florian Wirz, among others, it was a summer when Arsenal fans' expectations rose, Newcastle fans' enthusiasm waned...
There has been a lot going on on the Island in recent months when it comes to the transfer window, and Manchester City has also been very active.
Pep Guardiola brought in players like Ryan Sharkey, Tijani Reynders, new players in defense, and on the last day of the transfer window, he sent Gianluigi Donnarumma to the Etihad.
The Italian goalkeeper is not the most high-profile signing to arrive in English football this summer, but the circumstances under which the idea of him changing clubs was born are unusual in themselves.
Of course, the market is such that the matter is clear - Donnarumma did not want to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, the French club took the opportunity to sell him so that next summer they would not be left without compensation for one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
And that's all normal, but perhaps it's not normal for two sides to part ways like this, who just a few months later participated in a grand style in winning the historic Champions League trophy.
PSG conquered Europe, Donnarumma had some masterful performances in that run, and then the club decided to sideline him. They signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille in the middle of the summer and made it clear to Donnarumma that they were - overjoyed.
- The fact that Donnarumma is not defending is my decision, I want a goalkeeper with different characteristics - said the coach of the "Saints" Luis Enrique before the August match against Tottenham in the European Super Cup.
And no one believed him, everyone could have assumed that it was a directive from the club and from that moment on, there was only one club in Donnarumma's mind - City.
- I have always admired City and everything that the club represents over the last fifteen years. I wanted to come and now I am glad to be here - said Donnarumma at the presentation at the new club.
City, at least it seems, had no plans to sign Donnarumma at the start of the summer. That's probably why they brought in James Trafford, one of England's most talented goalkeepers.
Then an opportunity arose that Guardiola and the "citizens" did not want to miss...
- I have no problem saying it - Guardiola played a crucial role in my arrival. His career speaks for itself, the fact that he wanted me here is enough to make me feel honoured. I know he will help me become a better goalkeeper - Donnarumma stressed.
City have lost twice in the first three rounds of the Premier League (to Tottenham and Brighton, and defeated Wolverhampton), and the Champions League starts next week. Donnarumma arrived in Manchester as a European champion and as such is dreaming of big things in his new shirt.
- It's the biggest trophy in a player's club career. Now that I know what it feels like, I want to do it again and I'm sure City have the strength and the players to attack the title.
City's first rival in the Champions League is Napoli, the European champions.
- I have many friends in Napoli, but on the pitch we are opponents - like them, I want to win - concluded Donnarumma.
