Dejan Savicevic - Vasilije Adzic!
The comparison, of course, is not easy to make, because it is difficult to compare players who do not play the same position, and it is even more difficult to compare football eras.
And the hardest thing of all - a talent who has just stepped onto the biggest stage and a player who has set Europe on fire with his skills, decided the Champions League final and earned the nickname - Genius.
Journalists from the Italian "Tutomerkat" still insisted - Vasilije Adžić and Dejan Savićević, similarities and differences.
The best Montenegrin footballer of all time was given the floor:
"He is primarily a midfielder, while I was more of a winger, an individual player. He has offensive qualities, he shoots better than me, and I was a better dribbler than him. We are different players, but he can certainly reach an extremely high level, provided he maintains continuity," Savićević pointed out about 19-year-old Vasilije Adžić.
He says he shoots better, and here's how Savićević shot...
Their beginnings were similar, albeit with one significant difference: Adžić went from Buducnost straight to Juventus, Savićević to Milan via the then powerful Red Star, in whose jersey he won the "France Football" Silver Ball - he was officially the second best player in Europe.
"My advice back in June was for him to change his midfield and move, for example, to a mid-table club in Italy, where he would play around thirty games per season and be a starter, and then return to Juventus, where he would have a bigger role. He hasn't played much for over a year, and as a former footballer I know what it's like when you have such a long break. Now he has a chance and I hope he will get more minutes. On the other hand, more opportunities at Juventus also bring more pressure, which he will have to deal with. His talent is undeniable. If he gets enough chances to play and progress, he can reach the highest level," Savićević is convinced.
After moving to Juventus in the summer of 2024, the then 18-year-old Adžić did not play much, and injuries slowed him down: he gained more playing time in Juve's NexGen, in the third tier of the Italian competition.
So many breaks can be dangerous for young players, but Adžić announced that he can overcome that.
"When I look back on my career, I never had a break before coming to Milan. Since the age of 18, I was a starter and played 90% of the games for the clubs I played for. I would only miss matches due to cards or injuries. I was constant, and Vasilije has played significantly less in the last year and a half, practically having a break. That can leave a mark on his career. How he develops depends on the minutes he gets."
However, the "howitzer" he launched from a standing position ("from the knee") from over 30 meters in the 91st minute of the Italian derby against Inter, still shakes the football world of Italy.
"For me, Adžić's goal is not a surprise, because he scored similar goals while he was in Montenegro, in FK Buducnost and in the youth teams. He has technique, a lot of creativity, skill and talent. And he knows how to shoot, which he already showed on his professional debut in Montenegro. From that point of view, his goal did not surprise me at all, because I know how much potential he has," Savićević told Tutomerkato.
They also asked him about Nikola Krstović.
"After playing for Lecce, where it wasn't easy for him because the team was fighting for survival and survived in the last round, he managed to attract attention. He moved to Atalanta, which is a step or two further in his career, and now he has to prove himself again. He is strong, he is still young, he has potential and in Atalanta he has to take advantage of the opportunity he was given. You saw another such example in Italy," said Savićević, alluding to another Montenegrin legend who became famous in Kalć - Mirko Vučinić.
"Mirko had a similar path in Italy: he established himself in Lecce, then moved to Roma, which was a step forward, and then to Juventus, where he won titles. Nikola, through his games in Lecce, earned the opportunity to prove himself in a bigger club and to show that he can be a striker for the biggest teams," concluded Dejan Savićević.
