The premier performance in the Youth Champions League showed how much talent there is in the younger categories of Buducnost, and the youth team of our biggest club is now ready for new challenges in the elite. With some new boys, mostly younger than their rivals, who want to shine in the right way.
The Montenegrin champions will open the new Champions League season in Wales, and their rival in the first qualifying round will be Haverfordwest, from the city of the same name in that country. The match at the Bridge Meadow stadium starts at 1:20.45 p.m., with the return match scheduled for September 30th.
"All players are healthy, I think we can achieve a positive result, present ourselves in the best light and, most importantly, avoid defeat," said Marko Janjević, coach of Buducnost.
The Youth Champions League is divided into two tracks this season - one is attended by teams whose seniors have also qualified for the competition, and the other by national championship winners.
The first track brings the league section and the same matches played by the seniors, while the second - which features Buducnost - has 50 teams fighting for 10 places in the knockout phase through three rounds of qualifications.
The blue and whites, led by Andrej Kostić, eliminated Dinamo Tbilisi in the first round of qualifying last season, and did not disappoint in the second round against Trabzonspor - a team that later reached the Champions League final.
The first rival this year is quite unknown, but also the one against which Janjević's boys can look to advance.
"We didn't have any footage of our opponents, we don't know what system they will play in, but we were looking to prepare ourselves in general for that style of island football. We know that their first team plays in a 3-5-2 system, so we were adapting to that formation, so they can't surprise us there," added Janjević.
