It's essentially a big climb. Jose Mourinho He started in Porto, with whom he made history 21 years ago by winning the European Championship, but his independent coaching career began in the system of one of the "Dragons'" biggest rivals - Benfica.
That first term in 2000 did not go as the Special One had imagined, but 25 years later Mourinho, as an expert who in some way shaped football, having experienced both good and bad in it, returned to the “La Luz” stadium.
It was clear that this would happen immediately after he was removed. Bruno Lie, and confirmation arrived yesterday just before 17pm when it was announced that Mourinho had signed until the summer of 2027.
Our Karabakh has judged the lie Marko Janković who celebrated a 3-2 victory in Lisbon on Tuesday after a turnaround at the start of the Champions League season. Thus, Janković, who had a masterful assist three nights ago, in a way “promoted” the legendary coach.
Mourinho was only out of work for about twenty days, after being fired from Fenerbahçe, and the fact that he was fired in Turkey is a story in itself because he was eliminated in the play-offs for a place in the European elite by Benfica.
Everything about Mourinho is unusual, including the start of his independent career at the turn of the century. He left Barcelona's coaching staff to take over at the giants, but that mission seemed doomed from the start and it was obvious that it wouldn't last long.
The problems started immediately, when Mourinho refused to let his assistant be experienced. Žezualdo Pereira, continued with the announcement of the election for the club's president, and when it became clear to José that he was not the first choice of the candidate who was in the lead (Manuela Viljarinja) as if he had started to slowly pack his bags.
Mourinho was a temporary solution at that moment and gained wings the moment his Benfica defeated Sporting 3:0 in the big derby.
The special day after that triumph asked Villarreal to offer him a permanent contract, but the latter did not want it and Mourinho left the club after only nine matches.
Villarinho later admitted:
- If I could turn back time, I would do the opposite - I would give him a contract - said Villarinjo.
Mourinho then managed Leiria and that's where his "anonymous" coaching journey ends. What he has done since 2002, when he took over Porto, until today - with all the ups and downs - makes him one of the greatest in history.
