There is no more doubt, Radomir Đalović has left the Maribor bench - the uncertainty was ended by the club itself, which issued a statement and tried to explain the unusual situation in which the Montenegrin expert found himself.
Đalović's mission at Ljudski vrt lasted only 16 days, and it ended not because of the results or after a possible argument with the leaders, but because of a fight between two players in training and a situation in which our expert turned out to be collateral damage.
Đalović tried to calm the passions and as a "peacemaker" received a blow that forced him to leave the club.
"This is a case that requires further information. In recent years, we have often seen headlines about disputes, raised voices or even more serious incidents at training or preparations of clubs and national teams. It is not pleasant when what happened on Wednesday happens, but it is not a situation that we would not see in football," the club stated, adding:
"After a duel for the ball, a brief altercation occurred between the players, which escalated from verbal to physical. Players and coaching staff members intervened, and among the first to separate them was Radomir Đalović, who was hit in the process. The incident was quickly resolved, and the coach sent the players to the locker room and led the training session to the end. The players left the field together, and later gathered together to apologize for the inappropriate reaction."
That apology was obviously not enough for Đalović.
"In the meantime, discussions have taken place between the club's management and the previous coach, and taking into account all the circumstances, a decision has been made to interrupt the joint trip," the statement concludes.
Đalović led Maribor in three matches and recorded three victories (two in the championship and one in the Cup), and Slovenian media are pointing out that former Partizan coach Igor Duljaj will succeed him on the bench.
