Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe will remain with the French national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers despite suffering from an injury, Spanish media reported.
Real Madrid have been monitoring the situation with Mbappe in recent days, after he injured his ankle in the win over Villarreal in the league over the weekend. He nevertheless responded to the call-up to the French national team and remains with the team at the training center in Clairefontaine for now.
He was examined upon arrival and it was decided that the injury was not serious enough to pull him out of the squad ahead of the matches against Azerbaijan and Iceland. However, that could change if the situation does not improve, and Real are keeping a close eye on everything.
Marka reported that Mbappe did not train with his teammates, but rather trained individually.
His performance in the match against Azerbaijan on Friday is questionable, but despite that, Real Madrid do not expect him to return sooner than expected.
"He had a little discomfort, but it's not that serious, otherwise he wouldn't be here. Injuries are always reported before the call-ups come in, and sometimes after the call-ups. So far I have no information that it has worsened, if anything happens, we will announce it," said France coach Didier Deschamps.
