From the special reporter "Vijesti"
Mirko Vučinić is the coach, Stefan Savić is the captain - tomorrow in the Faroe Islands, but in the future, his extended hand on the field.
Two-year teammates from the national team (seven years - from Stefan's debut in 2010, to Mirko's departure in 2017), and sometimes bitter rivals in Serie A, from the days when they wore the jerseys of Juventus and Fiorentina, will find themselves in completely new roles when it comes to their relationship.
Savić, of course, as a still active legend of Montenegrin football, will be of great help to coach Vučinić on his debut.
Montenegro will play its sixth World Cup qualifier at the "Torsvalur" stadium in Torshavn, Faroe Islands, tomorrow (20:45).
"My generation looked up to Mirko and he was an idol to all of us. Even before I played for the national team. We shared the field, were opponents in Italy, he has been on the coaching staff for several seasons. We know each other quite well and I am very happy that we will continue to cooperate now, when he has a new position. There will be no problem for him to get used to us and us to him," Savić said at a press conference.
Montenegro arrived in the Faroe Islands with three consecutive defeats and no chance of joining the fight for the top two spots in qualifying Group L.
The "falcons" recorded their last victory back in March, against tomorrow's rival, in Nikšić, with a goal in the last seconds. From the Faroe Islands to the Faroe Islands - with the difference that Montenegro was still hoping for something after that goal by Edvin Kuč, and now they are "turning a new leaf".
With a new selector, a new cycle begins - in the middle of the current cycle.
"We have had some unpleasant results in previous matches and we will try to rectify that tomorrow. It would mean a lot to us to break that black streak, for self-confidence and everything else, although we know it won't be easy at all. We saw that no one played well here, especially because it is a difficult field, a surface we are not used to. But we prepared quite well, I think we will manage to break the streak - said Stefan Savić, for whom this will be his first time playing in the Faroe Islands.
He didn't come with the club or the junior national teams.
His Trabzonspor has had a great start in the Turkish championship, second in the table behind Galatasaray, and Savić stood out in the last win against Kayserispor (4:0) - with assists from the last line.
"We've started well in the Turkish championship and I'm very pleased with what we've shown so far. But now I'm putting that aside, because the national team is the only thing on my mind. Honestly, we can't wait to get on the field tomorrow and play the match, here in Torshavn. There's a positive energy, a working atmosphere, and I believe we'll transfer that to the field," Stefan Savić emphasized at a press conference ahead of tomorrow's match.
