From the special reporter "Vijesti"
The city of Torshavn was named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor, and the Faroe Islands, or the Faroe Islands, thundered over Montenegro. So much so that the question is whether, and when, we will recover from such a "thunder" on our goal, from such a blow and shock.
Faroe Islands - Montenegro 4:0.
Such results have become almost commonplace when Montenegrin clubs face Faroese ones (HB - Buducnost 4:0, summer 2021). Although, at least in the long term, the national team is becoming a mirror of the domestic league, we still did not believe that things would coincide, equalize so quickly.
Definitely the heaviest defeat in history - against a team ranked 136th on the FIFA list.
What a nightmare debut for Mirko Vučinić, the legend of Montenegrin football, for whom the match in the Faroe Islands was the first coaching - independent - match in his life.
It would be unfair to put all the blame on Mirko, but it is clear that he failed to stop the decline that began long ago, which accelerated under Robert Prosinečki. In the Faroe Islands, Montenegro has definitely fallen into the abyss.
All the shocks aside, the blows to self-confidence, pride, and even some football rating, Montenegro will suffer greatly in terms of results. Fourth place in the group, and some November turnaround is a bit unrealistic, will drop our team into the fourth pot ahead of the next draw for the European Championship qualifiers.
The relegation of the Montenegrin national team to the lower category of European football has been definitively made official in the Faroe Islands. The recovery process will be long and difficult, and the outcome is a question, but, at least for the beginning, detailed analysis and well-considered decisions are necessary.
Vučinić opted for a 3-5-2 formation for his debut and two debutants in the first line-up - Marko Perović on the left, Marko Šimun in midfield. It started with a shot by Krstović, who in the sixth minute led a counterattack, could have passed the ball, there were four of our players, but decided to shoot from about 20 meters - wide of the goal.
Two more long-range shots - Bakić and Šimun, straight at Lamhauge, and without danger, created the perfect illusion that Montenegro was better, that it was easier to reach the opponent's penalty area and that it was controlling the game in difficult conditions in Tórshavn.
And then the Farani took the lead. It seemed like out of nowhere, but that's how they play, from being outsiders they went to the Scandinavian style and goals that have no real announcement. The ball in the penalty area, came to Hanus Sorensen, an offensive player of the Slovenian second division club Triglav - a shot from a turn into the near corner and Nikić was overcome.
The cold weather in Tórshavn became even colder for our football players, for a group of about ten fans who had traveled all the way north to watch Montenegro.
On the other side, the home team got excited - they were also warmed up by the song of the group of fans behind the goal, a group that had a musician, drums, and a backing orchestra - they sang to the rhythm of reggae (Boney M dominated) throughout the match. What an exotic thing in the north.
Our team, on the field, didn't feel like playing reggae, although they could have quickly equalized. Osmajić had the best chance in the 21st minute with a header, shooting just wide of the post after a cross from Perović.
On the other hand, Farani were constantly dangerous whenever they got close to our goal, Tatnhamar reminded us of that with a header, and then only Olsen confirmed it. In the 36th minute, after the break, the Danish Koldig midfielder headed the ball past the near post to make it 2:0.
Vučinić did not make any substitutions at half-time, and as our team began the second half - the first half was a song. Confused, disorganized, lacking self-confidence - they were shooting from all sides and it was a question of when the third goal would come. And it arrived, in the 55th minute - the second of the match from Sorensen from Triglav, who was left alone, unhindered, and headed in a cross from Fredirigsberg.
After the third, the fourth came (Fredriksberg, after a handball by Andrija Vukčević), and it could have been the fifth (on the goalpost)... It is difficult to describe, to explain, what befell Montenegro in the icy waters of the North Atlantic.
