England coach Steven Gerrard will not return to Rangers after he withdrew from negotiations with the club's management, British media reported today.
Rangers executives held open and constructive talks with Gerrard on Thursday and Friday, who felt it was not the right time to return to Ibrox and confirmed that he would not continue negotiations, Sky reported.
The talks were positive, and both sides agreed to leave room for cooperation in the future.
The former Liverpool and England captain expressed his gratitude to Rangers fans for their continued support and wished the club success for the rest of the season.
Gerrard led Rangers to an unbeaten league title in 2021 and prevented Celtic from winning a 10th consecutive title. He then had less successful spells at Aston Villa and Al Ettifaq, which he left in January after 18 months.
The Scottish club has been looking for a coach since Russell Martin was fired in early October due to poor results.
