Milan goalkeeper Mike Meignan said today that he "completely agrees" with France teammate Adrien Rabiot and does not understand the decision to play his club's match against Como in the Italian championship in Australia.
"I completely agree with him. Today, a lot is forgotten, and too much is thought about the financial aspect. I don't understand why we are going abroad to play an Italian championship match. Besides, it was supposed to be a home match, so we are losing the home field advantage. Our goals are high and we must not leave anything to chance," Menjan said at a press conference in Reykjavik ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Iceland.
In an interview with the Figaro newspaper published on October 7, Rabiot called his club's February trip to Perth, where they will play Como in the 24th round of the Italian Serie A, "completely crazy."
His statement provoked a sharp reaction from the president of the Italian football league, Luigi De Cerve.
"Rabio forgets, like all footballers who earn millions, that they are paid to do a job - that is, to play football. He should respect the money he earns and show more understanding for his employer, who accepted and even supported the idea of playing the match abroad," added De Sierve.
After six games played in Serie A, Milan is in third place with 13 points.
