He made his debut against an outsider with a heavy defeat, and against another (even bigger) one, he eventually managed to achieve his first victory on the bench for Montenegro.
Our national football team, with great difficulty, defeated the modest Liechtenstein (2:1), and new coach Mirko Vučinić, after the "falcons"' debacle against the Faroe Islands (4:0), finally had reason to celebrate.
"The first victory has arrived, I'm very happy, but we need to keep in mind that we have a big wound, and with this victory we put a band-aid on it. The wound is still there and it takes time and work. I told the boys - this is the beginning and we are building the stairs stone by stone," said Vučinić.
It wasn't easy, the small Alpine state even took the lead near Gorica.
"I believed we could celebrate even when we were losing. We scored two goals, but we have to work harder when it comes to execution, because we are not able to create six or seven chances in every match without conceding a goal," Vučinić added to RTCG.
He emphasized the team's unity.
"They were a great group, brothers and with team spirit we turned the game around. I would also like to praise the guys who didn't play in their positions and put themselves in the service of the team."
He started both matches in a formation with three defenders.
"We'll see what happens next, and for these two games we prepared like that. We need to work on some things a little bit - the Faroe Islands came out twice and scored two goals, Liechtenstein once. There's little time, but we have to work constantly."
Can we learn something from the Faroe Islands?
"I'm happy with my guys and I wouldn't change them for anything in the world," Vučinić concluded.
