Born near Newcastle, he was the great aspiration of Scotland, and became the future and present of England.
Elliot Anderson may not be as well-known in the world of football as other masters of "proud Albion" like Jude Bellingham or Declan Rice, but coach Thomas Tuchel is seriously counting on him.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder recently made his debut for the only European team to have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, and is back in contention for the team for the final two qualifiers - tonight (20.45pm) against Serbia and three days later against Albania.
"Anderson is a key player for us at the moment - he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and that is why he is with us, that is why he starts games in the starting lineup," said Tuchel.
The German expert has no doubt whether the Forest player has earned his trust.
"That's right, because he was impressive. But he has to continue at this pace. He is a complete and very mobile midfielder, and he constantly shows that," Tuchel added.
Despite the praise, Tuchel was reluctant to reveal whether the 23-year-old had already secured a place in England's World Cup squad.
"He has a long career and a long road ahead of him. There are no guarantees - especially not public ones when it comes to the World Cup. It's not nice to make predictions or promises to players now, because everything is about competition right now. He is a top player with the right attitude and a lot of talent. He is fulfilling his role in the best possible way and we are very satisfied," concluded Tuhel.
Anderson has played in England's last four matches and has been a starter in each one.
