Only the Montenegrin fans were up to the football spectacle under Pod Gorica tonight, applauding the Croatian anthem, applauding the greats of the opposing team, Modrić, Perišić... and cheering on their players from the first to the last minute.
And from the south, where the Croatian fans were stationed, at the very beginning of the match, shameful cries were heard: "Kill the Serb", "Ready for the homeland", "The Ustasha flag is flying"...
The Podgorica stadium responded to such chants in the first half with a thunderous whistle, and the players responded in the best way possible - with goals.
Nikola Krstović sent a "howitzer" from the edge of the penalty area, and the roar from the north and west drowned out the chauvinistic and fascist chants from the south.
The Croats, however, played better in the second half, turned the score around, and in fair and sporting play, they showed how much they are above their supporters, or the part of them that was shamefully chanting.
Definitely an embarrassment for the Croatian fans in Podgorica, and the official announcer asked the guests several times to cheer fairly and in a sporting manner.
Further on, a banner was unfurled in the south that, among other things, read "no forgiveness", alluding to the slogan of the Montenegrin fans in the first match in Zagreb: "From Lovćen the fairy shouts, forgive us Dubrovnik".
Interestingly, that banner was greeted with applause at Maksimir two months ago, which best shows what kind of "fanaticism" Croatian fans had in Podgorica.
The response of the Montenegrin fans at the end was also significant: "Ustasha, Chetniks, you were running away together."
