Montenegro lost to Croatia 3:2 in Gorica at the end of World Cup qualifiers.
Neither the 2:0 lead nor two great chances at 2:1 in the second half - a shot by Jovetić and a goal by Krstović - helped Mirko Vučinić's team. The Croats turned things around in the final minutes.
The match near Gorica, which was played in a fair manner on the field and, for the most part, in the stands, was spoiled by Croatian fans who chanted "ready for home", "Kill a Serb", "The Ustasha flag is flying...".
The chauvinistic shouts were mostly drowned out by the whistles of Montenegrin fans, but they were still heard.
A commentator on Croatian Nova TV was disgusted:
"Unfortunately, the behavior of some of the Croatian fans in the first half was shameful. Scandalous chanting was heard from the stands where the Croatian fans were. I will repeat once again, the Croatian fans were welcomed here in an exceptionally nice way by the hosts and it is actually sad to see that some of them were unable to respond to the hospitality of the Montenegrins in an equal manner," journalist Saša Lugonjić commented in disgust.
At the end of the match, Croatian fans in the southern stands unfurled a banner that, among other things, read "no forgiveness", alluding to the Montenegrin fans in the first match in Zagreb: "From Lovćen the fairy shouts, forgive us Dubrovnik".
Interestingly, that banner was greeted with applause at Maksimir two months ago, which best shows what kind of "fanaticism" Croatian fans had in Podgorica.
The Montenegrin fans' response at the end was also interesting: "Ustasha, Chetniks, you were running away together."
