In July 2026, it would be exactly 10 years since Pep Guardiola took charge of Manchester City.
Although, the big question is whether the Catalan will celebrate his little anniversary as the manager of the "Citizens", as there is renewed speculation that he will leave the "Etihad" at the end of the season.
Guardiola himself confirmed that this was not just speculation, and has called on club leaders several times in the last year or two to seriously consider candidates for his successor.
It is obvious that parting ways are approaching, even though the legendary coach extended his contract until the summer of 2027 last year.
"City must prepare for my successor," Guardiola said ahead of tomorrow's league match against West Ham.
The island's media has been emphasizing in recent days that Guardiola could leave the club at the end of the season, but Pep didn't even bother to deny it.
"For the last three or four years, at a certain point in the season, I've been asked that question. Sooner or later, I'll leave Manchester City. I understand your desire to get an answer, but I still have 18 months left on my contract," Guardiola pointed out.
The next question was whether they would be there next year.
"I'm here, who knows what can happen. Things change quickly in football and that contract - whether it's for 10 years or six months - doesn't have to mean anything," Guardiola said, adding:
"I don't know why this story is being brought up again. I've already said that I won't be City manager forever, but we all knew that before. Whatever happens, the club has to be ready. Managers, players, directors will change... Only the owners won't, I don't think they will ever give up on City," said Guardiola.
It is mentioned that the main candidate to succeed Guardiola is Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
"It's 100% speculation. I have a contract until 2029 and I'm proud to be here," said Maresca, Guardiola's former collaborator at City.
