In February 1981, in Mostar, during the traditional Velež tournament, a meeting was organized between the surviving football players of Velež and the then club Crna Gora, who played on September 1, 1940. An opportunity to revive memories.
The text "From the Field to History", published on February 10, 1981 in Politika, recorded the memories of former members of the Podgorica club. Šefket Šabanadžović i Spiro Popovic.
"It wasn't easy to get to Mostar back then. We traveled in an open truck, with wooden benches on it. But we all wanted to reach our dear friends in Mostar. It wasn't just driving on the dusty roads of Montenegro and Herzegovina that was a problem - it was much harder to endure the constant police surveillance, and they were especially suspicious of our motives for visiting Mostar," said Šabanadžović.
"We were warmly welcomed in Buna, ten kilometers from Mostar," adds Popović.
"We got hungry so we asked one of the hosts when there would be something to eat, and he pointed to about a dozen fishermen who were fishing on the river and said that they were the ones catching lunch for us."
Another journey remained recorded, before that.
For Christmas 1935, Buducnost and Balšić simultaneously, and apparently together, went on a short tour of Boka Bay. It turned out - in bad weather. Buducnost lost two matches in Kotor on January 7 and 8 - from the text published in Zeta it is not possible to conclude who the opponents were, and it is possible that Yugoslavia was the rival in both duels - with a total score of 5:1, while Balšić was defeated in Tivat first by Arsenal, and then by Podmornica, conceding nine goals, while scoring two goals. Drama ensued, related to the weather conditions.
“After the disastrous results, both clubs wanted to return to Podgorica, but the snow prevented them, so the players and their fans only arrived in Podgorica after a three-day hike,” reported Zeta (Our Clubs’ Visits to the Coast, 13 January 1935). Wandering through the snow, they found accommodation for one night in Cetinje. They were welcomed home.
“The Banska administration allocated 500 dinars to the clubs, and the Cetinje municipality 300 dinars as aid. Our municipality [of Podgorica] informed all the nearby municipalities that it was helping the clubs. It further informed the municipalities that it would pay for all the expenses incurred by the clubs.” Budućnost and Balšić wanted these gestures to be remembered.
