Tens of thousands of fans welcomed the Senegalese national football team at a parade in Dakar today after winning the Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.
The team traveled through Dakar in an open-top bus, greeted by the sound of vuvuzelas, car horns, and the cheering chants of tens of thousands of fans, many of whom wore national team jerseys.
The players took turns raising the trophy and the Senegalese flag, applauding the crowd.
Fans climbed onto billboards and car roofs to get a better look at the football players, who arrived in Dakar this morning, where they were also given a welcome at the airport.
They were welcomed by Senegalese President Basiru Diomaj Faje, who praised the national team's performance.
"They did it heroically, they played beautiful football, they were incredibly fair and exemplary, both on and off the field. We can only be proud of them," the president said.
Senegal defeated competition hosts Morocco 1-0 after extra time in a chaotic final on Sunday evening with a goal from Papa Geje in the 94th minute.
Senegal's players left the field after a penalty was awarded to Morocco in stoppage time, but teammate Sadio Mane convinced them to return and continue the match.
Moroccan footballer Brahim Dias missed a penalty kick, after which extra time was played.
Senegal's decision to leave the field was condemned by the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, saying it was unacceptable, and the African Football Confederation made a similar statement.
The Moroccan Football Federation has announced legal action against Senegal.
