A day after former Montenegro coach Miodrag Radulović parted ways with the Lebanese national team, an official statement was made by the country's Football Association.
The Lebanese thanked their most successful coach in history, the coach who led them to two Asian Championships, who was just a point away from a "hat-trick" - to lead them to the continental championship for the third time.
They tried to explain the reasons for this sudden breakup in a short statement:
"The Lebanese Football Association announces that it is terminating cooperation with the national team coach, Montenegrin Miodrag Radulović, due to disagreements in positions regarding future steps and plans for the coming period," it said.
This was Radulović's second term as coach of the Lebanese national team. He previously led the "conifers" from 2015 to 2019, when he led them to the finals of the Asian Championship twice.
In the second, which began in December 2023, he recorded a score of 12 wins, five draws and eight losses, while in the qualifications for the new major competition he achieved four triumphs and one draw, with a goal difference of 14:0.
He only needed a point in the last round against Yemen, but he won't get the chance to complete the new cycle.
The farewell, however unexpected, was also amicable. The Lebanese paid tribute to the coach with whom they had made history.
"Thank you to Radulović for everything and we wish him much success in his future coaching career," it says.
Between two terms in Lebanon, Radulović was the head coach of the Montenegrin national football team for three full cycles, from 2020 to 2023.
