Barcelona Football Club, together with the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, has submitted the initial documentation to the European Football Union (Uefa) for the organization of the 2029 Champions League final, the Catalan club announced today.
According to the statement, Barcelona has officially expressed its willingness, in cooperation with the city and regional authorities, to participate in the initial phase of the candidacy, proposing the city of Barcelona as the host of the final match, while the Camp Nou stadium has been nominated as a potential venue for the final.
The final candidacy is expected to be formalized in early June 2026, when a complete file with all the necessary documentation needed to win the hosting of the final will be submitted, reports the Spanish newspaper "Marca".
Before the club's announcement, the Barcelona City Council's administrative commission approved the bid and accepted the so-called "Host City Agreement", in which the city expresses its willingness to host the final. The Catalan government also supported the bid, stating that Barcelona and FC Barcelona represent the "best candidate" to host the final.
On October 31, UEFA confirmed that it had received expressions of interest from 15 national associations to host the 2028 and 2029 club competition finals, including the Camp Nou for the 2029 men's Champions League final.
The UEFA Executive Committee is due to make a decision on the hosts of the eight finals in September 2026, and Barcelona will compete with Wembley Stadium in London in the race for the Champions League final.
In addition to its bid to host the 2029 Champions League final, Barcelona's stadium, whose reconstruction is expected to be completed before that date, is also among the Spanish Football Federation's options for hosting the 2030 World Cup final, which will be jointly organized by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
