Rennes players overcame a turbulent start to the week and a coaching change, ending a four-game losing streak with a spectacular 3-1 victory over Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain at Roisin Park.
The reigning French champions suffered only their third defeat of the season, but remain top of the table with 51 points from 22 matches. However, they could lose their top spot on Saturday night if Andrija Bulatović's Lens win away to Paris. Rennes, on the other hand, climbed to fifth place with 34 points with this victory.
The home team took the lead in the 34th minute after a quick counterattack. Musa Tamari masterfully "broke" the visitors' defense, freed himself from the goalkeeper and hit the bottom left corner with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area.
In the 69th minute, the advantage was doubled. Esteban Lepol headed the ball into the net with a powerful header, following a corner kick from Sebastien Šimanjski, making it 2:0.
The Parisians responded quickly. Just three minutes later, former Rennes player Ousmane Dembele reduced the deficit with a precise header.
PSG then increased the pressure, rushing for an equalizer, and home goalkeeper Brice Samba stood out with a great intervention after Gonzalo Ramos' attempt. However, in the 81st minute, confirmation of the triumph came - Brel Embolo took advantage of Ludovic Blas' cross and made the final 3:1.
