Sutjeska football players enter the second part of the MeridianBet First Montenegrin Football League season in the leading position with four points more than Mornar, five more than Decic, and 11 more than Buducnost, against whom they will open the spring part of the championship tomorrow (14) in the 20th round.
The team from Nikšić did well in the autumn, the difference could have been bigger, but in the last round, on December 10th of last year, Dejan Jelenić's team lost to Mornar at home (1:0).
During the break between the two parts of the season, Sutjeska completed preparations in Nikšić and Ulcinj, and played seven test matches. "Plavi" defeated Adria (7:1), Arsenal (3:0), Iskra (2:1) and Bokelj SBBet (1:0), drew with Otrant-Olimpik (1:1) and Mornar (2:2), and were defeated by Jezera (1:0). The team was strengthened in the January transfer window by Miloš Vračar, Deni Hočko, Marko Mrvaljević, Jovan Čađenović and Anto Babić.
Sutjeska and Buducnost played two matches in the first part of the season - the team from Nikšić celebrated in Podgorica (1:0), and the current champion got revenge near Bistrica (2:0).
"We have earned our current points balance through our work in training and our behavior in matches. The derby is the biggest match in our country and carries a great responsibility. From the start, we will impose something that we have been working on and trying in the preparation period. I hope for a victory, which is unlike any other. A victory in the derby is bigger than any other. These are the two biggest clubs in the country, a triumph against a big rival is a real pledge for the future," said Sutjeska coach Dejan Jelenić at today's press conference.
Sutjeska made changes in the transfer window, but so did Buducnost, which was taken over by Miodrag Grof Bozovic, and 11 new players arrived.
"This is a new reality, in terms of the number of players who have joined both teams. We have the utmost respect for Buducnost and its history. On the other hand, we believe in our model and what we do in training. I hope that with responsibility, a good approach and the support of the fans, we will keep things calm, that we will only deal with football and that the derby will bring everything that is beautiful. And we should reduce all tensions to the minimum possible, so that people who watch the game can enjoy beautiful football," said Jelenić.
The coach of Sutjeska knows which 11 players will take to the field of the City Stadium in Podgorica tomorrow.
"I've had the starting lineup in my head for the last seven days. I know which 11 will run, and that can only change if something unforeseen happens in training today. Everyone who plays will do their best to please the fans in Nikšić," Jelenić emphasized.
The Sutjeska coach is satisfied with how the transfer window went, the competition is now greater.
"I am satisfied with the transfer window. However, there are a lot of things related to the bonus players, who are in different positions. In relation to the bonus players, we have to make a squad that will go out for the match. Considering that there are 17 rounds left, there will be enough space for all the players. And I expect maximum focus from them in training and matches, in order to fight for their status."
Mornar is minus four from Nikšić, Dečić is minus five, and a reaction is expected from Buducnost in the second half of the season.
"The league is such that anyone can beat anyone. What we have managed to do and what has made a difference is the continuity in the last seven or eight rounds. I hope we are capable enough, physically prepared and tactically trained to continue like that in the second part of the season," concluded Jelenić.
Captain Vladan Giljen says that there is still a lot to play for in the championship, and that his team is going for victory against a great rival.
"The biggest match in our country. We had difficulties during the preparations, there was a lot of rain, the pitches were bad. We did as much as we could and we enter the championship ready. Nothing is over yet. We, with the help of the fans, are going for victory. I hope for a favorable outcome," said Giljen.
