Norwegian team Bode/Glimt continues to make history - last night they defeated Inter 2-1 in the second leg of the Champions League play-offs and secured a place in the round of 16 with a 5-2 aggregate score.
5:2 on aggregate against a team that has been to the Champions League final twice in the last three years - could it be better, could it be louder?
Maybe it can, considering that this club, from a city with only 42 inhabitants, has failed to beat Manchester City at home and Atletico Madrid away in its last two Champions League matches.
Coach Kjetil Knutsen did not hide his enthusiasm and pride for his players' performance.
"Can you believe it? I'm proud of all these guys. We come from a small town up north, and what we've accomplished is incredible. The players are taking steps, believing, working hard - they're just fantastic," Knutsen told TNT Sports.
The first half was tense and cautious. Inter attacked, had chances - but none were clear.
"We looked a bit scared, the defense was working, but we weren't allowed to experiment too much with the ball. We just kept kicking it away," admitted the Norwegian expert.
However, the second half brought control and a spectacular goal for 2:0.
"We have to be honest - the game didn't go as planned, but that goal to give us the lead was fantastic and crucial to our victory," added Knutsen.
The Norwegian coach emphasized that his team's success was the result of the enormous effort of the entire club.
"This is not just a team of players. Behind every little difference there are a huge number of people - the coaching staff, the medical staff, everyone who works behind the scenes. I am proud of everyone who has been part of this journey," Knutsen pointed out.
Bode Glimt is now among the top 16 teams in Europe and awaits the winner of the match between Manchester City and Sporting in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
