Borussia Dortmund football club has criticized the "disproportionate measures" of Italian authorities, which will cause some German fans to miss tonight's Champions League playoff match against Atalanta in Bergamo.
The German club confirmed today that several of its fans have been banned from entering Italy, while others have been visited by police at their accommodation.
"The club was not informed in advance of these disproportionate measures. The club is more than surprised by the scope and scale of the police measures. Measures of this type and intensity have never before been taken in connection with Borussia Dortmund's international matches," the club said in a statement, reported the BBC.
Borussia Dortmund stated that it finds the measures "incomprehensible and that they call into question the behavior of those in charge."
A Borussia Dortmund fan group announced on Tuesday that the situation was unprecedented and that as a result a large number of fans had reluctantly decided not to attend the match in Bergamo.
