Arsenal won the London derby for the second time in seven days, but unlike the match with Tottenham, the clash against Chelsea was a derby in the truest sense of the word.
The Premier League leaders responded to Manchester City once again and, with a game in hand, maintained their five-point lead after a devilishly hard-fought triumph in the duel with the Blues.
It was 2:1 with many chances on both sides, and all three goals came from stoppage time, a segment in which the Gunners are probably the best team in Europe.
Arsenal struck first and took the lead in the 21st minute after a corner kick.
Bukayo Saka took a corner kick, Gabriel Magalhaes headed the ball back from the far post, and William Saliba headed it into the net in the same way.
The "Blues" equalized in stoppage time, also from a corner kick.
Reece James crossed, and Piero Hincapie hooked the ball enough for it to trick David Raya.
The second half opened better with Chelsea having three serious chances, and as soon as they broke free from the pressure of their rivals, Arsenal took a new lead.
Now Declan Rice took the break, and Jurjen Timber did his best in the penalty area and scored for 2:1.
Just four minutes later, in the 70th minute, Chelsea were left with ten men as Pedro Neto received a second yellow card, and the home team then had two great chances to settle the question of the winner.
When he didn't do it in time, the pressure took its toll, and Chelsea shifted their focus to Mikel Arteta's half of the team and had two very dangerous attacks to equalize - Ray saved Arsenal from Alejandro Garnac's attempted cross, and in stoppage time, Liam Delap's goal was disallowed due to Joao Pedro being offside.
