Three wins, the same number of losses and a draw - that is the record of the young national football team in the European Championship qualifiers.
Winning 10 points is certainly a respectable performance, because the chosen ones Goran Perišić They won four of them against Sweden, and with a little luck they could have won all six if they hadn't faltered in the finish and allowed the "three crowns" team to draw (2:2).
Montenegro has, to be more precise, lost to the best teams in the group so far in the qualifiers - Poland, which has all the triumphs, and second-placed Italy.
The Poles are the next opponent, today at 14 pm in Tuzi, and they represent the biggest possible challenge.
- We definitely have a tough game ahead of us against one of the best teams in these qualifiers. The fact that Poland has had its best performance so far gives us additional motivation to give it our all to get a positive result and spoil this run of rivals. We want to show that we also have quality and that we can handle anyone - said the defender Marko Franeta.
Our team led twice against Sweden on Friday, they scored Balša Mrvaljević i Vasilije Adžić, but did not maintain the advantage.
- I think we played a good game in a difficult away game. It's a shame that we conceded a goal near the end and didn't win, but again, when we look back, we can say that we have a positive result against them - a win and a draw. I don't think there's any reason to be dissatisfied - says Franeta.
The U21 national team has quality, it has shown it against strong opponents.
- In addition to winning one of the toughest groups, we have achieved a lot of good results. Every game is a proof for us and we will definitely do our best in each one to maintain third position, both for our sake and for the sake of the next generation of the young national team, so that it has the most favorable draw for the next qualifiers - Franeta emphasized.
Montenegro's qualifications end in October, when its rivals will be North Macedonia and Armenia.
