For the second summer in a row, the Montenegrin anthem will be heard at major competitions thanks to young football players - this year, first against Denmark, then Italy and France.
This became known after our cadet national team learned the names of its rivals awaiting it at the European Championship in Estonia.
It seems like the group could hardly have been more difficult for Radovan Kavaja's men, but perhaps that's for the best. In a tournament that only features the top eight, there are no easy rivals, and it will be an opportunity for the young falcons to compete with the great football nations.
"It's a nice feeling to see our country in such a society, but no opponent can move us from our positions," said Kavaja.
Montenegro opens the championship on May 26, and the Euro will be played at three stadiums in Tallinn and one in Rakvere. France has been champion three times in this age group (2004, 2015, 2022), Italy twice (1982, 2024), while Denmark reached the semi-finals two years ago.
"As for the quality of the teams in the group, there's no need to talk about it. We have to try to maintain this approach and, through even stronger work, seek our position that leads us further. This championship is certainly an opportunity to show that we didn't get here by accident," the coach is clear.
The second group includes home team Estonia, Spain, Croatia and Belgium, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
YOUNG FALCONS AT THE EP: Montenegro - Denmark (May 26), Montenegro - Italy (May 29), Montenegro - France (June 1).
