Thus, information emerged that Mourinho is close to taking over at the "royal club" because it is solely Florentino Perez's decision. The Real Madrid president reportedly understood that in this situation - after two seasons without a trophy - Real Madrid needs a man like the former European champion with Porto and Inter.

Mourinho, however, has a contract with Benfica for next season, but it includes a clause that allows him to terminate it if a club pays compensation of three million euros. In today's football, especially at the top level, that figure certainly cannot be an obstacle.

Real Madrid replaced Carlo Ancelotti with Xabi Alonso this summer, and the Basque was later succeeded by Alvaro Arbeloa, who will certainly leave the first team at the end of the season. The only question remains whether he will return to his primary role, as he was previously in charge of Real Madrid's B team.
