Mornar's series raises standards: We have to be prepared for a possible mistake by Sutjeska

For about 40 minutes in the 32nd round, Mornar players were virtually the leaders in the MeridianBet First League standings, but after the round played on Saturday ended, the situation at the top remained the same - Sutjeska is first, two points ahead of Baran with four rounds to go.

The team from Nikšić maintained their advantage by defeating Bokelj SBBet, 3:2, with a goal Ivan Vukčević in the 88th minute, while Mornar once again did his job perfectly.

They defeated Jedinstvo Franca at “Topolica” 3:0, which is their ninth consecutive triumph in the championship, and their 10th if you count the victory in the Cup semi-final against Jezera.

The sailor has only known successes in the last two months, but that is still not enough to take first place.

- An incredible streak is behind us, it's also incredible that we are on such a winning streak and are not first in the standings - the captain of Mornar tells "Vijesti" Andrija Kaluđerović.

The fight continues, Mornar never stops believing that he can win the historic title.

- We have been playing well for a long time, we have chemistry and results - everything is going the way we want and it may seem easy. But it is not, it is not easy to win continuously, let alone do it through dominance - Kaluđerović pointed out.

Mornar against Jedinstvo may not have been at a recognizable level, but he still routinely did the job.

- The most important thing is that we did what we could, even though we knew all along what was happening in Kotor in the duel between Bokelj and Sutjeska. We knew how the score was going there, we were first in the live table on several occasions, but everything changed in the end. We were a little disappointed, but we cannot influence how Sutjeska will play - says Kaluđerović.

Mornar suffered its last defeat at the beginning of March, when it was defeated by Jedinstvo in Bijelo Polje.

- If there is a turning point of the season, it was the game in Bijelo Polje. We lost and played badly, so it was clear that something had to change. We had meetings, they were not pleasant, but something like that seemed to happen for us so that we could start playing the way we can - reveals the 32-year-old midfielder.

There are still four rounds left - both Sutjeska and Mornar are under pressure, any draw or defeat could be decisive.

- We are aware that we have no right to make mistakes, but we have imposed this on ourselves. We have become aware that when we give our all, we become a very difficult opponent for anyone.

Barani seem to have been a particularly difficult opponent for Sutjeska this season, as they have defeated them three times in four head-to-head matches, with one draw.

- We showed more than Sutjeska in those duels, but in the fight for the title, those so-called small games always make the difference.

Mornar will host Bokelj in the next round, while Sutjeska will travel to Tivat. This is a new chance for Barani...

- Honestly, I don't expect Sutjeska to make a mistake at the end of the season, although we all hope that it will happen. That way it's easier for me to focus on what our task is, because we also have to be ready to take advantage of our rivals' mistakes if they happen.

Kaluđerović has been at Mornar since 2021, he has had both good and bad times with the club - now he has a chance to crown his period in Bar in the right way.

- Mornar is a stable club, it's been that way since they arrived. Mica Perovic "We are growing year after year, it is visible to the naked eye, so perhaps the moment has come for us to reach the historic trophy," concluded Kaluđerović.

Double crown? We'd accept one cup...

Unlike Sutjeska, Mornar can achieve a double crown, as they reached the semifinals of the Montenegrin Cup.

Barane will face a rematch against Jezera in Berane on Wednesday, after winning the first leg 1-0 with a goal from Demir Škrijelj. The other semi-final pair is Dečić and Otrant Olimpik.

- We dream of a double crown, of course, although we would accept one trophy because it would be historic for this club. However, when we have come this far, of course we want both trophies and we will do everything to get them - Kaluđerović is clear.

Kaluđerović has missed only one of 32 games in the championship this season.

- I am pleased and grateful above all that I am healthy, but the work of this season is not yet done - said Kaluđerović.
