Football club Budućnost has not received a license to compete in European competitions in the first instance, the Football Association of Montenegro (FSCG) announced. Four rounds before the end of the MeridianBet First Montenegrin Football League, Budućnost is in fifth place in the table and is closer to the play-off zone than to a possible European exit.
However, not receiving a license due to not meeting financial criteria, for a team that received almost 2,5 million euros from the city budget alone, represents a classic organizational breakdown.
The FSCG Club Licensing Commission held a session on April 27th to review evidence of compliance with the criteria for clubs that applied for the licensing process for competitions organized by UEFA for the 2026/27 season.
In addition to the men's football club Budućnost, the women's club Budućnost, as well as Otrant-Olimpik, Breznica, Mladost, Bokelj and Jezero, were not granted a license. The men's and women's football clubs Budućnost, Otrant and Breznica were not granted a license due to failure to meet financial criteria, and Mladost, Bokelj and Jezero were not granted a license due to failure to meet all criteria prescribed by the Regulations on Licensing and Financial Sustainability of FSCG Clubs for Competitions Organized by UEFA.
"Clubs that have not met the prescribed conditions and whose requests were rejected in the first instance procedure have the right to appeal the decision of the first instance Commission," the FSCG announced.
The licenses were granted by unanimous decision to Sutjeska, Mornar, Dečić and Petrovac.
"The commission considered the submitted documentation and evidence for all five criteria: sports, infrastructure, personnel-administrative, legal and financial, and based on expert reports for each of the criteria individually," said FSCG.
