Atletico Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League after losing 1-0 to Arsenal in the second leg of the semi-final last night in London.
The result of the first match was a draw (1:1), and after the second leg, the coach of the "Colchoneros", Diego Simeone, congratulated his rival on advancing to the final.
"Well, if we're eliminated, it's because our opponents deserved to go through. They took their big chance in the first half and deservedly go through. I feel calm, I feel peace," Simeone said after the match.
Atletico did not take advantage of their chances.
"We weren't precise enough in the situations we found ourselves in. We improved in the second half. There were things that could have gone in our favor, but they didn't. We gave our all and now we have to accept where we are. Thanks to our fans and players, I feel proud to be where we are. I said we wanted to compete and we did. Unfortunately, we didn't win anything, but we reached places that are difficult to reach," said the Argentine coach.
The journalists also asked Simeone about refereeing decisions, and they were interested in his comment on the situation when his son Giuliano found himself in front of the Arsenal goalkeeper.
"I won't get into it. We all know it was a foul. We all thought the referee made the right decision. I won't get into it because I don't want to make excuses and apologize," Simeone concluded.
