Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has lost the support of many "merengues" fans around the world to the point that a petition with millions of signatures has been launched calling for the Frenchman to leave the club.
The Frenchman has faced criticism from teammates, coaches and fans for his on- and off-field outbursts so far this season. Fans have taken drastic measures in the form of a petition, dubbed "Mbappe out", which has been signed by around 12,28 million people.
The petition's slogan reads: "Madridistas, let your voice be heard. If you believe that changes are necessary, don't remain silent. Sign this petition and stand up for what is best for the future of the club."
A few months ago, those who advocated for Real Madrid to live without Mbappe cited tactics as the reason. They pointed out that he lacked chemistry with Vinicius, and that he did not press or fall back into defense.
Real Madrid played their best football without Mbappe, winning five games in a row in all competitions before the March international break. When the Frenchman returned to the squad, Madrid won just one of their next six games in all competitions.
However, recent criticism of the Frenchman has largely focused on his role in the crisis rocking the dressing room. Recent reports revealed that Mbappe clashed with a member of the coaching staff in training, which has led to him increasingly distancing himself from the team.
The 27-year-old only reinforced that impression when he recently went on holiday to Italy instead of recovering from a hamstring injury in Madrid. It is clear that Mbappe has lost the respect of many fans, and his performance on the pitch has not been enough to overcome the outburst. Real Madrid have not won a major trophy since the Frenchman arrived at the Bernabeu.
Mbappe's contract expires in 2029.
