Aleksandar Nedović returned to the Montenegrin coaching scene after two years and immediately made his mark.
His Mladost's victory against "his" Buducnost - the club he grew up in - at the stadium under Gorica, returned the team from Donja Gorica to an active fight for survival without a play-off.
Nedović, former coach of Buducnost, Sutjeska, OFK Titograd, Petrovac and Grbalj, and last season, associate of Željko Petrović in Kuwait's Kacia, has brought new energy to the "DG Arena", but the real fight is just beginning.
With only four rounds left, Mladost is still "below the line", a point behind Jezero, and three behind Arsenal and Buducnost, but the outlook looks much better after Saturday's victory.
Nedović took over Mladost at a difficult time.
"The situation was definitely not the best, the table indicated that, but challenges exist to be accepted - if you believe in yourself, and there is no reason not to, I have been through enough in my career, both in Montenegro and abroad - it gave me the right to accept the invitation without any fear. It was a challenge, but challenges are there to be accepted and solved," Nedović tells Meridiansport.
His predecessor, Marko Šćepanović, says he left him a physically well-prepared team.
"It will certainly make my job easier, all the work of my predecessor. The team has fallen into a crisis, and when things go badly, psychology plays an important role, and I hope that my arrival will not just be shock therapy that will last a round or two. Mladost has a talented team, which has fallen into a crisis, which is why the changes have happened, I am glad that the team reacted well and accepted the demands, but the real fight is still ahead of us," Nedović points out.
The duel at Gorica was decided by Senegalese footballer Mamadou Kamara, who plays for Mladost on loan from Sutjeska. His goal in the 90th minute gave Mladost back its energy and gave it an impulse, not only in terms of points.
"When you start with a win, the energy in the club is automatically different. We have brought ourselves to a position where we are dependent on ourselves, there are still four rounds left and every game will be difficult. We are away to our direct competitors, Jezera and Arsenal, but before that we have Petrovac, and every next game is the most important. Experience gives me the right to see, to feel, how much desire there is in the players. And when there is desire and the right relationship, with the talent and quality that you have, then you can expect good things," Nedović is optimistic.
The preparation for his debut match on the Mladost bench, against Buducnost, was specific.
"Every game against Buducnost carries a special emotion for me, I spent the years between 10 and 21 as a player at that club, and later as a coach. And I don't hide the fact that I'm a Buducnost fan, it will always be like that, wherever you work, but you have to do your job professionally and humanly. I have to admit that in the preparation for the game I took a lot of care about these things, I told the players that Buducnost - Buducnost, even if they ran with the Roosters and or the Pioneers, they are our biggest club, whether someone accepts it or not, the stadium under Gorica is our temple of football and you have to position yourself that way, no matter what the results are."
Nedović returned to Montenegrin football after a year of coaching training in Kuwait, where he assisted our celebrated football player and coach Željko Petrović.
"That year meant a lot to me in terms of improving my skills, 'refreshing' my craft, so to speak. I worked with a coach who is at the source, who is a student of the Dutch school. Željo gave me a lot of space to work, a lot of freedom, he helped me a lot and I used that in the best way. Kacija's results themselves show that it worked. I also spent a lot of time with Nebojša Jovović, who led our rival, and we all know what kind of results he achieves and what kind of mark he left, not only in Kuwait but throughout the Middle East. Ante Miše was there too, I watched and participated in the preparation of the matches against Steven Gerrard's team, in the match against the team that Marko Varati plays for. I think overall that our coaches are a bit underestimated, considering where we were born, if we had other passports and the value itself would be greater", concludes Aleksandar Nedović.
