Inter legend and former Dutch international Wesley Sneijder harshly criticized the quality of football displayed by Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.
Arsenal won 1-0 at the Emirates thanks to a goal from Bukayo Saka and advanced to the final, which will be played in Budapest on May 30th, with a 2-1 aggregate score.
Sneijder, a key player in Inter's 2010 Champions League triumph, was so unhappy with the performance of both teams that he jokingly suggested that UEFA take drastic measures. He pointed out that tonight's second leg between PSG and Bayern should actually be the final of this year's competition.
"After 35 minutes I said that UEFA had to intervene," Sneijder told Ziggo Sport.
"They should call London and say: both teams off the field, and the final is played between Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain."
"I knew this would happen. Atletico pulled back and gave up possession, and Arsenal had the ball under great control," he added.
It seems that Sneijder forgot the style of play of his Inter under Mourinho in the 2010 championship. It was not even close to the style of play played by PSG and Bayern.
However, despite criticism of the game, Sneijder praised Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta for reaching the final, but was again critical of the Premier League's leading team's players.
"I looked at the players again and I can say that Arteta already deserves a monument," Sneijder said after the game.
"He simply doesn't have top players, and with this team he manages to outplay Atletico, which is impressive."
Whatever Sneijder says, the Gunners are backed by numbers, as they are the only team to have won all eight of their group stage matches this season and remained unbeaten in the entire competition. Arsenal conceded just six goals in 14 games en route to the final.
Arteta's team awaits the winner of the duel between PSG and Bayern in the final. In the first match last week, the French champion and defending champion won 5:4.
