Five teams from La Liga will compete in the Champions League next season. After Rayo Vallecano beat Strasbourg (1-0, 1-0) and reached the final of the UEFA Conference League, La Liga secured an additional place in the Champions League next season.
UEFA awards an extra place to the two countries with the best results in all three European competitions at the end of the season. England have the most points (28.125) and were the first to secure fifth place. Spain (22.093) are second, as Germany, with 21.785 points, cannot overtake them any more.
The top five teams in La Liga are now Barcelona, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Betis. Of these, only Betis is not certain, but has a good chance of maintaining fifth place.
