Real Madrid's internal investigation completed - Xhuameni and Valverde punished

The conflict was not hushed up, Spain was buzzing about it for two days, but Real Madrid at least made sure to quickly put an end to the Aurelien Chuameni - Federico Valverde case.

The Frenchman knocked out the Uruguayan, who was injured under still unclear circumstances and probably suffered a mild concussion, and the club announced today that it had punished both players.

The punishment is financial, but not symbolic - Chuameni and Valverde must each pay half a million euros for doing something that should not be done at a much lower level, let alone at the biggest club in the world.

As Real announced, the players are "aware that they made a mistake" and "repent", but the damage is enormous because this incident is just one in a series at Real in the last ten days.

The case was closed two days before El Clasico and the duel with Barcelona (Sunday at 21 p.m.) in which the championship race should end, although it does not exist.

If Barca does not lose at the "Nou Camp", they will secure their second title in a row and the 29th in history.

The Catalans have a huge 11-point lead over the "Blancos" with four rounds remaining.
