Montenegrin national team player Marko Janković has been suspended for eight matches for an incident during the Azerbaijan Cup semi-final match between Qarabag and Sabah.
Janković, who has been playing for Karbag for four years, got into a fight with the referee after the match, which his team lost 2:1 (the first match ended 2:2), and received a second yellow card.
As Azerbaijani media reports, the Montenegrin midfielder did not stop there after the match, but "attempted to physically pressure the referee and threatened him", so it was clear that he was facing a severe punishment.
According to the regulations of the Disciplinary Commission of the Football Association of Azerbaijan, the penalty for improper conduct and pressure towards referees on the field, as well as in the stadium tunnel, can be from four to eight matches, so it is clear that Janković got the most out of this. In addition to Janković, Qarabag was also fined, and will have to pay 12 thousand euros.
Janković's contract with Qarabag expires in 2027, and since there are still three games left until the end of the season, the suspension will be carried over to next season, in which the Montenegrin midfielder will miss five more matches.
