A disappointing season, without a trophy, did not sway Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who decided to call new elections at the Madrid club and confirm his candidacy for another term.
This came a day after speculation emerged in the Spanish media about a possible resignation.
Peres, speaking to the public after a meeting of the club's board of directors, rejected claims that he was tired of leading Real or that he had health problems, saying that behind such stories was an organized campaign by his opponents with the aim of removing him.
The meeting of the Madrid club's leaders took place just two days after the 2-0 defeat to Barcelona, which secured the Catalan giants a second consecutive title in the Spanish Primera.
The new trophyless season further increased the pressure on Real's management, as the "royal club" was left without the biggest accolades for the second year in a row, which caused dissatisfaction among some fans and raised questions about the future of the sports project.
Despite the criticism, Perez wants to continue leading the club that has won numerous trophies under his tenure, including multiple European championship titles, and believes he still has the support of the majority of Real members.
