Ten wins in 15 games, a jump from seventh to third place and a secured return to the Champions League - Michael Carrick has done more than anyone expected, and will receive a new contract from Manchester United.
The former midfielder of the "Old Trafford" giants arrived in January as a temporary solution when Ruben Amorim was fired, and will now become the permanent coach of the "Devils".
The news was reported by The Athletic, and then by all the British media. Allegedly, United's top brass are in favour of Carrick continuing, but everything will have to be approved by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of the club's minority owners.
"Chief executive Omar Berada and sporting director Jason Wilcox believe Carrick is the right fit and are expected to announce their choice to Ratcliffe this week," the Athletic said.
If Ratcliffe responds in the affirmative, United will begin formal negotiations with Carrick before his future at the "Theater of Dreams" is confirmed.
United have been waiting for a title since Alex Ferguson left - can his former student bring it back?
