Savo Milošević resigned as head coach of the Sarajevo-based football club Željezničar today, after just three months at the helm. "After, I must say, a long period of reflection that has been going on for weeks, I have made the decision to resign as head coach of the Željezničar Football Club. As I said, the decision did not come overnight," Milošević said, as reported by the club. Milošević, who joined Željezničar three months ago, said that he had an agreement with the club's management on long-term cooperation, that is, that the plan was to remedy the difficult situation by June, and then start a new project. "Given that we have reached a situation where, practically towards the end of the season and the beginning of the new one, neither I nor the people from the club can plan anything concretely from June, it becomes pointless to continue cooperation. First of all, I have to think about my future, and the club itself has to find solutions, which I assume will be very difficult in the coming period," he said. The former Partizan coach stressed that he was very sorry for the decision he made and that he really intended to work at the club for the long term. "That was the plan and the project. I sincerely believed that it could be achieved, regardless of the obstacles that we all have in this area, and that it was possible to create a quality system and return the Željezničar Football Club to its rightful place in Bosnian and Herzegovinan football, and in the region," he said. "Unfortunately, this time too, some things got in the way and we will not be able to implement that plan, or at least I will not. All that remains is for me to sincerely thank everyone for their cooperation," he added.
Milošević also stressed that he was very pleased to leave Željezničar in the safe zone, in fifth place in the table. He also thanked Željezničar's fans, emphasizing that they were "special" and that they had helped the team overcome its problems.
"Finally, I want to thank all the people of Sarajevo who welcomed me here in a truly special way. I partly expected it, but in some situations I was also surprised. That makes me even more sorry. It would be an honor and pleasure for me to stay and live in Sarajevo and work at this club. But, well, maybe another time," Milošević concluded.
