It was emotional last night in La Liga - Robert Lewandowski said goodbye to Barcelona fans, while in Madrid, Antoine Griezmann said goodbye to Atletico fans.
Griezmann joined Atletico in 2014, and then five years later moved to Barcelona, where he stayed until 2021. He returned to Madrid, and then last night against Girona, said goodbye to the home fans, as the Frenchman is leaving for MLS at the end of the season, specifically Orlando.
"Now is the moment when everything becomes difficult for me. First of all, thank you all for staying. This is incredible. Secondly, and something that is very important to me - I know that most of you have already forgiven me, but I also know that some still haven't, but I want to apologize once again for moving to Barcelona. I made a lot of mistakes then, I wasn't aware of the love I had here. I was young and I didn't understand the situation properly. I made a mistake then, but I thought about everything and did my best to come back and enjoy all of this again," Griezmann said.
Griezmann provided an assist for Ademola Lukman last night, who scored the only goal in the win over Girona.
The Frenchman leaves Atletico as the club's top scorer with 212 goals in 500 games played.
With the "Colchoneros" he won the Europa League, as well as the Spanish and European Super Cups.
