Real Madrid football club confirmed today that captain Dani Carvajal will not wear the Spanish team's jersey next season.
Real Madrid said the club and the player had "agreed to end a wonderful chapter".
Carvajal's contract with Real expires in June.
This 34-year-old footballer joined Real in 2002 and spent a total of 23 seasons at the "royal" club - ten in the academy and 13 in the first team.
"Dani Carvajal is a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its academy... Carvajal has always been an example of the values of Real Madrid. This will always be his home," said Real president Florentino Perez.
Carvajal played 450 games for Real Madrid, scoring 14 goals and helping the club win 27 trophies, including six in the Champions League.
He has played 51 games for the Spanish national team, but has missed most of the national team's matches in the last two seasons due to injuries, so he is not expected to be on coach Luis de la Fuente's list for the upcoming World Cup.
