Kavaja: New tasks, same goals

The Montenegrin cadet national team began preparations yesterday for a historic appearance at the European Championship in Estonia, the first of two major competitions awaiting the team. Radovana KavajeBecause the World Cup is being played in Qatar in November.

But before that, the Old Continent Championship. A “fierce” competition, only eight teams, the cream of European football under 17 players, and among them Montenegro.

The championship begins on May 26th, when our team will play Denmark, followed by matches with Italy and France.

- The tasks are new, but the goals are the same. We want to continue playing well against teams that are at the top of European football. These guys have the opportunity to step up and push the boundaries. Our greatest strength is the great atmosphere and the huge desire to compete with the best in Europe - said Kavaja on the eve of the first training session.

Two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.

- We worked and fought for this. All our rivals have quality, experience and a history of playing in major tournaments, but I believe that if we are at our best, we will be a serious opponent for anyone. I hope that we will recognize the opportunity that lies ahead of us and that we will have reason to celebrate at the European Championship as well - said Kavaja.

The cadet coach emphasizes that the youth's experience from last year's European Championship can be valuable, regardless of the results achieved by the 2006 generation.

- We are proud of the success of the 2006 generation, and this selection has taken a step further by qualifying for the World Cup. I want these guys to be an example to future generations - in terms of professionalism, attitude and desire to play against the biggest teams in Europe - emphasized Kavaja.

He is especially pleased with the players born in 2010, who are already performing with the older players and have shown their quality at the “Miljan Miljanić” tournament in Serbia.

- Their attitude and commitment are commendable. I am especially happy to be back. Nikola Vukoja, who with two great goals restored confidence. If the players born in 2010 continue to contribute as they have so far, we will be a very tough rival for everyone - said Kavaja.

He emphasizes that the result will not be the only measure of success.

- It doesn't necessarily mean that we will win even when we play well, but it is important for us to be a team that everyone will seriously analyze and respect as an opponent.

The big stage brings a lot of attention from scouts, managers and European clubs, but Kavaja believes his players can stay focused.

- We can't escape from that, but this is exactly what we were looking for. Every good match can open the doors to big clubs. I believe we will only see the successful careers of the guys who will represent Montenegro at the European Championship - concluded Radovan Kavaja.
